Teaching Approach
- Help students to take charge of their learning, using information and communications technologies as a living tool rather than an end in themselves.
- Propose concrete, universally applicable projects that not only engage the students' intellectual and analytical skills, but also call for them to use manual dexterity, historical knowledge and imagination.
- Diversify their students' learning by promoting partnerships with the community.
Outstanding Achievements
- As part of the activity entitled "Reproduction d'un objet historique datant de la period de la Nouvelle-France", students make a representative object from their ancestors' lives during the New France era with their own hands and then exhibit their work. Over the years, this activity has become a real "happening" at the local, national and international levels.
- These two teachers introduce their students to archaeology by having them participate directly in archeological digs in Tunisia via a website and satellite telephone.
- The Lagueux brothers' work has won them numerous awards, including the Governor General's Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History (2004), the Prix national Essor awarded by the ministère de la Culture du Québec (2006) and the Médaille d'argent de l'Ordre du Mérite awarded by the Fédération des commissions scolaires du Québec (2007).
- The Lagueux duo originated the civic project "Gouvernement scolaire" whose aim is to reorganize the school's student council to take the form of a parliament. This gives the students who are elected an opportunity to develop skills that relate to the practice of democracy and citizenship. The National Assembly of Quebec modeled its "Parlements au secondaire" project on this concept, and it now sponsors that activity and offers it in all schools in Quebec.
