Teaching Approach

  • Be a role model for young women.
  • Teach students to show leadership and take initiative to identify and solve problems themselves.
  • Listen and communicate effectively so that all students can perform safely in labs and communicate their findings. (Queen Margaret's School has a 50 percent ESL population.)
  • Apply leading-edge brain research findings on how girls learn to teaching in an all-girls environment.

Outstanding Achievements

  • Implemented the use of Tablet PC (a notebook computer with a touch screen) as an instructional tool at Queen Margaret's School by creating new ways of using the technology and then training other teachers to use it.
  • Collaborated with Toshiba Canada and wrote its Tablet PC Curriculum Integration Guide for Educators.
  • Collaborated with fellow science and mathematics teachers to build up interest among the school's all-girl population such that 70 percent of Grade 11 students are taking two or three sciences along with mathematics and other required subjects.
  • Founded an Amnesty International chapter at the school to teach students about civil rights issues around the world.

"There is a quote in Ms. Magon's classroom: "To whom much is given, MUCH is expected." This is a reminder that she will do anything and everything she can to help her students but they, in return, are expected to prove their abilities and strive to be the very best they can be." Former student
