Letter from the Minister of Industry
Dear Education Partner:
I am pleased to provide you with a copy of Exemplary Practices a collection of innovative and effective teaching methods from the 1993 and 1994 national-level recipients of the Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence in Science, Technology and Mathematics. It is appropriate that you are receiving Exemplary Practices during National Science and Technology Week, October 13-22, 1995, a 10-day Canada-wide celebration of science, engineering and technology.
The Prime Minister's Awards honour elementary and secondary school teachers who have had a major, proven impact on student interest and performance in science, technology and mathematics (STM). Now in its third year, the program has recognized more than 300 outstanding educators from coast to coast.
Exemplary Practices is designed to share the "best practices" of some of Canada's most exemplary teachers with educators across the country. For example, you will find useful information on cooperative education, peer tutoring, integrated programs and science promotion activities. I am sure that you will find this publication to be a valuable resource in furthering STM education.
I encourage you to share this publication with your colleagues who are responsible for STM education in your school, school board, department or association. A flyer is enclosed to help promote Exemplary Practices. I would appreciate it if you would post the flyer where it will be seen by STM educators, either in your staff room, on a common area bulletin board or next to your photocopier.
If you have any questions or comments about Exemplary Practices or the Prime Minister's Awards, please call 1 800 O-Canada (1-800-622-6232) or send an email.
Yours very truly,
John Manley
