Prime Minister's Awards for teaching Excellence

Hands-on math and science

Mathematics and science are among the human race's greatest achievements and they can be full of beauty, wonder and surprise. For children encountering the abstract thinking and logic of these fields for the first time, though, the subjects are as familiar as a foreign country, the language and customs of which must be learned to visit it.

But how do we make sure the visit is a happy one, that the local dialect will not be confusing or the food too rich? If we are lucky, we will have as our guides teachers such as Denise McWilliams, Jacqueline Aird, Jamie Kwok and Carl Twiddy. They have each developed ways of bringing students into the world of mathematics and science and making them feel at home.
