Letter from the Prime Minister

For the past four years I have had the pleasure of meeting some truly outstanding Canadian educators at the national ceremony of the Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence. And every year I have been impressed by the dedication and creativity of these fine teachers. This program honours excellence in a profession that means a great deal to Canada's future.
The achievements of all recipients are celebrated in their schools and home communities. National-level recipients also come to Ottawa to receive their certificates and take part in tours, workshops and other exciting activities. I believe that the most important part of their week in the Nation's Capital is the time these teachers spend getting to know one another and exchanging ideas and techniques. This publication is intended to capture some of those ideas so that they can, in turn, be shared with you. Exemplary Practices is made available to teachers across Canada in print and on the Internet.
I hope that you will enjoy this resource and be able to use it in your own classrooms.
Finally, I would like to say congratulations, once again, to all of the 1996 Prime Minister's Award recipients. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.
