The Governor General's Awards for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History

  • Administered by: Canada's National History Society
  • This national bilingual program recognizes teachers of elementary, middle and senior schools who demonstrate excellence in teaching Canadian history.
  • The Award: 6 recipients receive $2,500 and an all-expenses paid trip for two to the Award Ceremony. The award recipient receives a medal and a $1,000 prize for the school.
  • The 2000 Award was presented by her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson at a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on October 13, 2001.
  • Finalist lesson plans available in a newsletter format and on-line at the Canada's National History Society website.
  • Searchable database of history teachers and their area of expertise available on line at the Canada's National History Society website.
  • Nomination poster featuring Canadian History theme can be used as a classroom resource. Related lesson plans available on-line at the Canada's National History Society website.

The Bayer Inc. Award for High School Chemistry Teachers

  • Administered by: The Chemical Institute of Canada
  • Funded by: The Bayer Rubber Inc.
  • Recognize: outstanding contributions in high school chemistry teaching in Canada.
  • The Award: cash prize of $500 and one-year membership in the CIC; up to 2 awards given each year.
  • Award presented at the Canadian Society for Chemistry Conference and Exhibition, the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering Conference, the Chemical Education Conference OR at a local section meeting (which ever is most convenient for the winner).

The Union Carbide Award for Chemical Education

  • Administered by: The Chemical Institute of Canada
  • Funded by: Union Carbide Canada Ltd.
  • Recognizes: an individual who has made outstanding contributions in Canada to education in any level in the field of Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • The Award: cash prize of $1000, up to 400$ in travel expenses, and a commemorative framed scroll.

The NOVA Chemicals Ltd. Award for Chemistry Teaching

  • Administered by: Canadian Society for Chemical Technology
  • Funded by: NOVA Chemicals Ltd.
  • Eligibility: the award shall be presented to an individual who has contributed to teaching and has had a great influence upon students. The staff of any Community College, Technical Institute or Collège d'Enseignement Général et Professionel (CEGEP) in Canada are eligible candidates.
  • The Award: cash prize of $1,000, a commemorative scroll and travel costs to receive award and conference registration if applicable.

Distinguished Principal/Vice-Principal Award

  • Administered by: Canadian Association of Principals with sponsorship by McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Ltd.
  • Recognizes: exemplary principals/vice-principals who demonstrate strong commitment to educational leadership.
  • The Award: winner will be an honoured guest at the National Conference of the Canadian Association of Principals and $5000 award will be made to the Canadian Association of Principals' Foundation in the recipient's name.
